| A 14-day adventure holiday concentrating on the attractions of the province of KwaZulu Natal. Adventure and relaxation are both provided and the combination is up to you. The beaches of KwaZulu Natal are among the most beautiful and unspoiled in the world and are worth spending some time on. There is also an abundance of adventure in the form of scuba diving, safaris, horse trails and even white water rafting in season. Highlights of the trip include a selection of safaris in various game parks including, when booked sufficiently in advance, a "walking trail" under the guidance of highly trained rangers, a hike up the Drakensberg mountains, horse trails and a look at some of the history of the Zulu and Boer wars. We understand that it's important to have the right balance between adventure and relaxation so, as with all our adventure holidays, there are many options available on this holiday, depending on how much adventure or relaxation you want. We will discuss these with you and plan your holiday, according to your choices, when you book.
Your adventure holiday begins with a number of safaris in a variety of the game parks in the area. We also take a trip to do some birdwatching from boats in a designated wilderness area. From there we travel around KwaZulu Natal learning about the history of the area. We vist battlefield sites and Zulu cultural centres. Next is a trip up the Drakensberg mountains where the planned option is to sleep out in a cave. However you can choose to sleep in a hut or hotel, and for the next 2 days you can hike up the mountains or even experience the mountains on horseback, depending on your preference. And of course, there are those beaches.

Zulu Itinerary | ||||
| Day 1: | ||||
| Arrive at Durban International Airport after an overnight flight and transfer for the trip to the game parks. Your first night in South Africa is spent at the beautiful seaside resort of Umhlanga. Located on the Indian ocean and with beautiful beaches and an abundance of restaurants, it is the perfect way introduction to South Africa. | ||||
| Day 2, 3, 4, 5, 6: | ||||
| The first stage of your adventure holiday begins with a number of safaris and is your chance to experience Africa and to see wildlife. We enjoy a 5-day experience of the bush and explore a variety of game parks in the area, including Umfolozi, Hluhluwe and St.Lucia. This is the home of the previously endangered Black Rhino, Lion and Leopard. If booked sufficiently in advance, we can experience the real Africa by travelling on foot where possible and learning the interdependence between terrain, flora and Game. Evenings are spent in camp around a fire and under the stars, with the nightsounds of the veld - there is no better way to experience Africa. | ||||
| Day 7, 8, 9: | ||||
| This is the time for us to leave the bush and experience life in the sea. We go offshore and take time out to explore the underwater world of Southern Africa. For the intrepid, there is the chance to dive with sharks, and for those who are not seeking quite so many thrills, a reef dive. If you are not a diver and do not want to scuba, there are many other options for you. Snorkelling is available, as is "quad biking", horse riding or walking the beaches or just exploring the area. | ||||
| Day 10, 11, 12 : | ||||
| We travel to the "Barrier of spears" or Drakensberg Mountains and at this stage, we have a choice of venue and activity. We have a chance to experience life on the mountain the way the Bushman did thousands of years ago. We hike the foothills of the Drakensberg for the next two days and marvel as limitless vistas unfold before us by day. By night, we bed down in ancient caves where Bushmen used to live and which are still adorned with their paintings on the walls. As an alternative we can choose to spend some time in the comfort of a hotel located amongst the same spectacular peaks with the choice of activities including horse riding or hiking the foothills, returning to the hotel each night. En route we stop at the Royal Kraal, centre of Zulu Royal life. We also stop and take in various battlefields made famous in the Zulu and Boer Wars | ||||
| Day 13,14: | ||||
| The last two days of the tour are spent making our way back to Durban in preparation for the flight home. We can spend time in the mountains or exploring the city of Durban. Then again, there are always those beaches. | ||||
